Green Building
Drought tolerant green roof garden. The Council District 9 Neighborhood City Hall in South Central Los Angeles was designed by architect Paul Murdoch and incorporates many sustainable features into its design and is a Leed certified building. A drought tolerant rooftop garden helps mitigate storm runoff as well as urban heat island effects, and reduces greenhouse gas emissions. A 7,000 gallon underground cistern collects rainwater for re-usable irrigation. The courtyard contains eight raised photovoltaic arrays that move during the day to track the sun and shade the space below. South Central Avenue, Los Angeles, California, USA
